Watch an interview with Smith created for Split Tooth’s Portland screening of his 2017 film
Michael Glover Smith has long been a favorite filmmaker at Split Tooth, so we were thrilled to screen his 2017 film Mercury In Retrograde at the Movie Madness Miniplex in early May. For the event, Smith recorded an exclusive video interview about the creation of the film with Bennett Glace, which is being presented here for the first time on Split Tooth’s new YouTube channel.
In it, Smith revisits what he feels was his most difficult film to shoot, explains how horror films inspired its look, and talks about the importance of a cast bonding quickly. He also touches on why making Mercury in Retrograde briefly made him believe it would be his final film, before realizing he could never quit filmmaking.
Currently, Smith’s latest short film, Paper Planes, which he co-directed with Alyssa Thordarson, is playing festivals around the world. Its West Coast premiere is taking place at the Nevada City Film Festival on Saturday, June 24. You can also follow Smith’s writing at White City Cinema.
Mercury in Retrograde is currently available to stream on multiple platforms. Find the film here.
